Pitch (the high and low sounds of the melody) and ….
Rhythm (the length of the sounds) set to a steady beat (the pulse or heartbeat of the music)

How long the note needs to be held down for depends on the note value.

Time signatures …
- 4 Shows us the number of beats we have to count to
- 4 Shows us the kind of beats.
- To work this out think backwards
- Think of the bottom number as a hint. There are 4 of x in a Semibreve.
- (The bottom number is always a fraction of a semibreve)
- There are 4 crotchets in a semibreve.
Theory … simple time signatures
- All of these time signatures are Simple because the bottom number can be divided into 2

- Notice there are many different kinds of Simple Triple time?
